The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a youth- oriented voluntary organization in India. It was established in1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of students through community service. NSS promotes the idea of social welfare and nation- building by involving students in various community service activities.
NSS activities typically include programmes related to health, literacy, environmental conservation and rural development. Students who participate in NSS engage in activities like blood donation drives, awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives, tree plantations and working with local communities to address their needs. Participating in NSS not only helps students contribute to society but also provides them with opportunities to develop leadership skills, teamwork and a sense of social responsibility.
