Student Union provide students with a voice in the governance of their educational institution, allowing them to choose representatives who can advocate for their interests, address concerns and enhance the overall student experience. These elections also promote civic engagement, leadership skills and a sense of community among students. Additionally the outcomes of these can influence campus policies, activities and the direction of the institution, making them an important aspects of campus life.
In 2006, the Lyngdoh Committee was formed to frame guidelines for ' Student Union Election' across the country. Jawahar Lal Nehru Smarak PG college abide by these guidelines and elections are held accordingly.
The Student Union has six central panel positions. These are the posts of President, Vice- President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Library Secretary and Treasurer.
