Jawahar Lal Nehru Smarak P.G. College: Situated in the Terai Region, close to Nepal Border; the birthplace of Lord Buddha; and the work place of Professor Shibban Lal Saxena, the college is named after the name of First Prime Minister of Independent India; and it keeps spreading its rays of fragrance everywhere. Its foundation was laid on 13.03.1965 by then Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The College was initially affiliated to D.D.U. Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur but at present it is affiliated to Siddhartha University, Kapilvastu, Siddhartha Nagar. Our college is the oldest added institution in the entire Terai region. It is considered as a premier institution of Maharajganj District. The college was established by the divine hand of Freedom fighter and educationist, Professor Shibban Lal Saxena. Professor Saxena also established one more college, Lal Bahadur Shastri P.G. College in Anand Nagar. In earlier time the college attracted students from remote areas and even from neighbouring countries like Nepal, etc. due to its pious teaching- learning environment. Our college is structured scientifically. Its lecture rooms are well ventilated, spacious and furnished with furniture. In earlier it had around ten thousand enrolled students but at present due to university guidelines it has around three thousand students enrolled as per teacher-student ratio. The college is renowned in the whole district for its pious, transparent and smooth administration at all times. The students and their guardians of Maharajganj region give their valuable preference to this college for the study.
In the college, besides the faculty of Arts, there are several courses running like M.Ed., B.Ed. B.Sc. and B.PEd. It has the privilege of running P.G. courses in the departments of Hindi, Political Science, Ancient History, Geography, Sanskrit, Sociology and M.Ed. It also has the privilege of running N.S.S. and N.C.C. which draw the attention of extra-ordinary students who keep glorifying the college by their shields and awards.
Our college has separate Departmental libraries along with a Central Library. It has well-furnished spacious study-halls with latest useful magazines and journals for students. There is a separate Common Hall for girl students for their study and academic purposes. It has the privilege of running Rajarshi Tandon Centre-thereby thousands of students get academic benefits and achieve their career objective. By the courtesy of Department of B.PEd., a number of competitive sport games are being heldthroughout the year. The versatile and studious students glorify the college as well as their career with their medals and shields across the nation.
The college remains a Nodal Center for various examinations and plays pivotal role during the examinations, including university exams, various entrances and competitive exams, of all kinds in the whole district.
The Departments of Geography, Defence and Ancient History used to organize Educational Tourfor prolific growth of students and it broadens the learning instincts of the students. The election for Students Union takes place every year; and it is possible due to their good conduct. From the point of studying and learning the college is rich in having well-furnished, spacious and ventilated lecture-rooms along with required well furnished furniture and electricity. The drinking water is available place to place via hand-pump and R.O. supply centers. It has a good and safe cycle-stand for its students for their carefree study. Besides Government scholarship, the college provides fee-relaxation, medical expenditure and many other services to its students. The teaching staff is well expert and extra-ordinary in their disciplines as they are appointed by Commission after a rigorous tests and procedures. They are self-disciplined, punctual and devoted to their duty. Likewise, the Non- teaching staff is also efficient and well equipped; all the office works are completed in time by them.
Our college holds premier location and hence, its services are required by various bodies for different types of activities including election; government examinations, test centers and trainings, etc. Most of the District level programme organizers appeal to use its field for their functions.
Our college campus is covered with CCTV for transparency, smoothness and untrammeled functioning. As the time passes, the college becomes cradle for learning and research for students and scholars. The college, with a commitment to remove educational backwardness, keeps imparting education to the students and learners of this whole Terai region. Thus, being affiliated with Siddhartha University, this college keeps spreading its rays of education for and wide for humanity forever.
